Katan
Katan is a mulberry cocoon-based silk, the primary silk for the Benaras weaves and brocades, reason behind its prominence and continued popularity is the durability and ability of the silk textile to take on so many design interpretations, in weight, intricacies and implicitly intense weaves. The weight of the silk has also adapted itself to changing times and whimsicalities, as women moved away from heavy silk wraps to more ethereal, shape silhouettes were accentuated.
