Banaras 1938. An old established trading house specialising in fine textiles and jewelry steps out of the comfort zone of the ancient city to spread its wings to all the major Indian cities, even the then summer capitals at Simla and Mussoorie.
By the winter of the same year the company opened its flagship store in the stately interiors of the Taj Mahal Palace hotel in Bombay, now Mumbai.
Over the decades the elegant chiffon-clad princesses have been replaced by business magnates, movie moghuls, cinema stars, international dignitaries, an unwavering clientele which values excellence and the need for ‘something different’ drives them to our doors.
Today, as we inch towards a century as an atelier and coutouriers, we pay tribute to a unique city and its legion of weavers, who have made Benaras silk every woman’s first choice when seeking textile opulence.
